Sandipan is interested in understanding how different fertilization practices affect the soil microbial community. He primarily uses amplicon sequencing to decode the community composition and diversity of microbes in soil under different treatments.

He believes that providing systems level understanding will help one to design different tools that will enable plant ecologists and soil biologists to predict beneficial interactions to achieve improved yields, better soil quality and plant resilience.
