Dr. Dominguez-Bello is the Henry Rutgers Professor of Microbiome and Health at Rutgers University. Her research integrates the field of anthropology and microbial ecology. She is interested in studying the impact of disrupting the human microbiome, e.g. how Westernization changes environmental microbes and human exposures. She also seeks to understand the microbiome development from birth and the functions of human microbiome for the host.
Dr. Dominguez-Bello is a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the American Academy of Microbiology. She was awarded the Medal of Merit from the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research and the Arturo Carrion Award from the Puerto Rico Society of Microbiology. She is also the winner of the International Foundation for Science Roi Baudouin Award.
